Summary of the TRIPS PLUS ULTRA proposal

We at PRO HUMANO GENERE believe that innovation should be spurred globally in a more fair, efficient and effective way, by sharing the burden that exclusive rights entail among the different Countries, according to their wealth. This is the spirit of the TRIPS PLUS ULTRA Proposal, which correctly address the innovation issue in a convenient manner for both side of the aisle.

Some of the left´s and the right´s points of view regarding the innovation issue are depicted in the home page as two columns.

This proposal entails not having 20 years-long patents in every country of the world, but having the length of the patents change from country to country in accordance to their economic capacity (here you will find a chart that renders a fist glance to how such a thing might look like). This hypothetical system which the TRIPS PLUS ULTRA proposal entails has been understood as a fairer and more effective system. Additionally, as reflected in this economic model, the efficiency of the current international system of encouraging innovation through patents could be improved. A single change to TRIPS Agreement of the WTO will be needed. The system will be better for innovators and the countries that typically host innovators and at the same time it will better for consumers (overall) and the developing world, taking on account the status quo. All countries could come together around it!
